Materuni Waterfall & Chagga Cultural Experience 

Just 15 km from Moshi, Materuni Village is nestled on the lush slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro and is home to the Chagga people, one of Tanzania’s largest and most historic tribes. As the last village before Kilimanjaro National Park, Materuni offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural richness.

Your adventure begins with registration at the village office before setting off on a scenic 40-minute hike to the stunning Materuni Waterfalls. Along the trail, your local guide will share fascinating insights into Chagga traditions, daily life in the village, and the diverse flora and fauna of the area. On a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peak.

When you reach the waterfalls, you’ll be amazed by the 80-meter cascade tumbling into a crystal-clear pool—ideal for a refreshing swim, so be sure to bring your swimwear!

After soaking in the views, you’ll return to the village for a delicious traditional Chagga lunch, made with fresh local ingredients. The experience is topped off with a taste of authentic banana beer, a cultural treat you won’t want to miss!
